Roscommon born Cathy Jordan has been a professional singer with traditional group Dervish for nearly 30 years, leading the band as front woman through thousands of concerts in hundreds of cities in nearly 40 countries and has 18 albums under her belt. Cathy has also collaborated with many renowned artists including Brendan Graham on internationally known song You Raise Me Up, Vince Gill, Steve Earle, Imelda May, David Gray and more.
As an ambassador for Irish culture and traditional Irish music, Cathy has received many awards for her contribution including BBC Lifetime Achievement Award 2019, Sligo Cultural Ambassador 2018 and Annie McNulty Award 2014. She has a deep understanding of traditional Irish songs and singing and has collected hundreds of songs which otherwise may have been forgotten.
The Summer School’s team of tutors is made up of internationally renowned performers with proven track records as teachers and educationalists. The primary means of teaching and learning will be ‘by ear’ with an emphasis in the less experienced classes of assisting pupils to develop oral/aural skills in addition to instrumental competency and developing core repertoire. All classes are designed for intermediate to advanced (minimum 2 years instrument experience) adults and children over 6 years of age except beginner instrument classes, whistle and sing, set dancing, sean nós dancing, traditional singing & sean nós singing which are suitable for all levels including beginners.
